Flt Lt Steve Partridge

Flt Lt Steve Partridge (Ret’d) passed away in June after a long fight against cancer, aged 67. Steve joined the RAF in 1971 and retired after 40 years service before working for the MOD at Boscombe Down. During his service he flew Shackleton’s, Nimrod’s, and then Puma’s for over 20 years. He was also an active and key member of the Armed Forces Rally Team. He was married to Anne for 43 years. He will be greatly missed by Anne, their daughters and grandchildren.

Douglas Fletcher

Our Dad served in 55 Squadron in the RAF as Ground Crew during WW2. He saw action in the Middle East, Greece and Italy. He never told us much about those times as with many who experienced the war. He was a loving and kind man who rarely had a bad word to say about anyone. He made enduring friendships with those he met over the years and up until his passing in 2019, all those who had the pleasure of meeting him were honoured to have made his acquaintance. He is greatly missed by all of us.

Paul Scott Hampson

Paul made up his mind at 10 years old; never to be swayed; 1) To be a chef 2) Join the RAF. He did both. First, he qualified as a chef and then he gained experience at the BBC London. Second, he joined the Royal Air Force, and had many posting and loved the life, he was born into the RAF and understood the lifestyle. His father told him when he was a toddler, 'When I am away- you are mummy's Wingman, you keep her safe, watch her back.' Paul never ever forgot; he was there for his mum the whole of his life, also everyone else who needed a hand up, or support. He was a very special man that will be so dreadfully missed, his humour being one, he was so loved by so many.

Douglas Gordon Reich

Doug died on 5th April 2021, aged 98. He was a reconnaissance pilot flying P 51/2 Mustangs with II Sqn. He went into the Seine at 300mph in June 1944, was saved by his Mae West and was captured and sent to Stalag Luft 1, on the Baltic. He was liberated by the Russians in 1945. He gave many amusing and informative presentations about his time in the RAF and as a POW. He resumed his career in newspaper printing until 1983, when he retired to North Wales. His obituary was in The Times on 20.4.21.

In memory of a wonderful dad, grandad and greatgrandad who passed away at the age of 96. He joined the RAF at 16 as an apprentice and at 18 volunteered for aircrew. He completed a full tour of 31 ops as an air gunner with 460 RAAF squadron. He met WAAF Beryl Wright and they married in 1946. He had been a member of the AGA since the 1950s and in 1980 started up a branch in his home town of Hereford. He cheated death several times in his life but sadly couldn't beat covid. We all miss him.

04/02/1949 - 31/01/2021 Dad was a flight engineer for Hercules at RAF Lynham. He passed away peacefully age 71 in Salisbury Hospital. He succumbed to Covid-19 and sadly passed away peacefully. His love of horses, dogs, flying, music and engineering never faded. His quirky sense of humour had many people in stitches and everyone I have had the pleasure of speaking to, spoke very highly of him. Dad (Vic) would do anything to help friends and family. He will forever be my hero.

Despite his dementia at the end he still had good memories of his RAF days - the family and I miss his good humour, his care & love for us all and his wisdom - he was a true gentleman - may he now rest in peace. This is a tribute to our dear friend and colleague whom we know simply as Fred. We were members of the Officers Mess at Royal Air Force Melksham in the late 1950’s and early 60’s - the National Service years. Such a strong bond was formed that regular reunions have taken place to the present day. A wiry little guy, small in stature but great in character, Fred was a man of attitude and a well of stories. We will sorely miss Fred. He is irreplaceable and we shall never forget him.

Walter Colvin Ferguson ( 26/07/1915 - 06/11/1942 )

Walter was our maternal grandfather. He was killed on active service on 06/11/1942 whilst serving with Bomber Command. Mother never spoke about him, only to say that he died in during the war. He served his country bravely and like all those men and women who served and who died, he deserves to be remembered.

Remembering our Dad who enjoyed many years working for the RAF and then with the ATC in Scotland and England. We share fond memories: Sunday lunches in the Mess where we learnt to play snooker; daughter and dad sharing a dance (he was a great ballroom dancer); and years of laughter as he shared about his aeronautical training & service as a 'mech eng' and administrator; and pranks and words of wisdom from his service. Sharp in mind and wit, and a great dad! Cheers!

Following 31 years RAF service, I became a self-employed gardener, Bernard was a gardening client. We soon became friends, like many he had no one to talk to about his flying duties during WW2. He's "good morning, old boy" and "see you next week, old boy" remain in my memory to this day. Blue Skies, Bernard, you are not forgotten.

Alan was a proud associate member of 49 Squadron R.A.F. He was asked to take over as secretary in 2006 and continued compiling and editing the magazine, entitled The 4T9er, from 2006 until his death in 2020. The last one being Issue 56 dated February 2020. This was something he thoroughly enjoyed doing and took great pride in the finished booklet. In addition, Alan served as a volunteer at Eardington Station on the Severn Valley Railway for many years and was a valued member of the team.

Dad joined the RAF in June 1943 and served as an engine flight mechanic, particularly in 90 Squadron, Bomber Command during WW2. He was later posted to Palestine and was a member of the Palestine Veteran's Association. He met and married our mum, Rhoda, whilst stationed at RAF Stradishall, Suffolk and worked for many years for the Royal Observer Corps when we were boys. He was a gentleman to everyone and a loving and dedicated husband to Rhoda and dad to us. We miss him dearly.

Stan joined the RAF when he was 17 years old. He spent VE Day in Jui, Sierra Leone. He was a dedicated head master who will be missed by his many friends and family.

This is to commemorate my grandfather who served in the RAF from 1942-1946 both in the UK and overseas. I never knew him as he passed away just before I was born but I wanted him to be remembered for his service and dedication which took him away from his daughter Sheila (my mother- now deceased) and my grandmother Muriel. Remembering Leading Aircraftsman 2765782 John Robert Charles Handford Born 4th June 1933 - Died 22nd April 2020 National Service at RAF Rudloe Manor October 1954 - October 1956 Our father enjoyed and had fond memories of his two-year National Service with the Royal Air Force. There is no doubt during the three months following our father’s diagnosis he took great solace in these memories and looking at his photographs in his RAF uniform.

Doreen Theresa Nancy Fielder (nee Brine) 1923- 2011

My loving mother, Doreen Theresa Nancy Fielder (nee Brine) joined the WRAF during WW2 and later was posted to Cairo. On her first day there, in the chaos and noise that is Cairo, she met her husband. He was with a group of airmen and when he saw my mother, he confided to them, that she was the woman he would marry. This came true six months later in Heliopolis. As well as being beautiful, she was principled and kind all of her days. She was a devoted wife and mother who is sorely missed by all her family.

Albert Daniel Arthur Honley (aka Danny Honley)

Born in 1925 my father, from 1945 onwards, led a distinguished career in the Royal Air Force. As an officer pilot he was stationed at the following RAF stations: Shawbury, Boscombe Down, Waddington, Watton, Rheindahlen (West Germany), Changi, Brize Norton, Benson. A top secret SIGINT job performed in the 1960s at RAF Watton earned him the Air Force Cross. With deep regret and shame I lost contact with Danny in the 1980s. He died in December 2019. I sincerely wish I'd known you better Dad...
